National School Theatre Awards

National School Theatre Awards

On Monday 22nd June 2026, Mrs Miller and I accompanied four students to the National School Theatre Awards. This prestigious event was held at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in Drury Lane and celebrated musicals and plays produced by schools across the country.

Our school show, Chicago, was shortlisted in several categories, including Best Musical and Best Ensemble. Louie Lynch was nominated for Best Male Performance in a Musical for his portrayal of Billy Flynn, while Victoria Salamanca was nominated for Best Female Performance in a Musical for her role as Roxie Hart. Ruby Wakeford in year 10 was also nominated for Best Solo Performance for her role as Mama.

Although we did not win any of our categories, we had an amazing time celebrating the achievements of schools across the UK, which every year champion the performing arts and put on the most incredible productions.

We definitely felt like winners as we left, having been surrounded by so many talented and dedicated students and staff. Highlands School would like to congratulate all the schools who won awards and the organisations that sponsored the event. We really hope that this year's production of Annie will also be nominated so we can return next year and, who knows, perhaps even perform at the theatre or win an award.
